Question by : I want to see my mother’s records at the assisted living home, they want me to sign a waiver and nurse with me?
My parent is at Senior Star at Elmore Place in Iowa and the facility is having major problems. I want to see her records and they say I have to sign a waiver and have the assisted living director with me as I review it. Is this legal?

You better have a consult with a lawyer, and maybe have him / her review the records with you

What are the medical issues for elderly people why they live to nursing homes?

Question by bhupinder k: What are the medical issues for elderly people why they live to nursing homes?

Best answer:

Answer by Angela R
Many elderly go to nursing homes due to family members not being able to care for them efficiently. It could be as minor as they do not have the time, or it could be due to the person having dementia, alzheimer’s, parkinson’s or any other severe disease. Also some people have blood disorders or have severe diabetes that requires “nursing” capabilities. Some families just do not feel comfortable and would rather have a skilled facility take care of their family member.

Unless each apartment has a spot numbered for their unit, the parking is up for grabs. That’s always something to consider when you look to rent a place.

Is it true that living in nursing homes, they take ALL your SSI & SSDI $$ &leave you with only $38 in the US?

Question by : Is it true that living in nursing homes, they take ALL your SSI & SSDI $$ &leave you with only in the US?
I used to volunteer @ nursing homes, & that’s what I heard patients say. My mom now lives there, & I hope they’re not taking advantage of her like that.

Answer by CO the Old Dog
The cost of care in a skilled nursing facility, an assisted living residence or even at many group homes is much much greater than what anyone receives on SSI or SSDI. In some cases it well inc excess of $ 400 – 800 USD per day depending on what part of the country One resides. I don’t think anyone is getting taken advantage of her. BUT the rest of us who pay our federal taxes are getting taken to help pay for her & others long term care for beyond their existence. That seems to be the quandary that exist in our country. Paid out of pocket for assisted living for my mother which is why I know.

Move parents to assisted living when they still have mortgage?

Question by Jenn: Move parents to assisted living when they still have mortgage?
Do you know how this scenario would work?
My parents truly need to be in an assisted living facility but they currently have a mortgage remaining of about 15k. I am unable to purchase their home and take over the payments. Do you know if there are any programs that help with this type of scenario?
Thanks, in advance, for your time.
I forgot to mention that the appraisal value of the house is less than the current mortgage value. So by selling it we would be taking a loss. They live in a VERY rural area so to get renters in it would be extremely difficult.

Best answer:

Answer by Lg
sell the house or rent it out

They would have to show up to see what is happening to remotely report anything.

Best answer:

Answer by Breeze
yes,..its usually set up in advance but yea they come at any reasonable time. And they are required by law to REPORT anything THEY think is out of line.

For CNA, do they hire more in nursing homes, hospice or assisted living facilities?

Question by lolitagirl: For CNA, do they hire more in nursing homes, hospice or assisted living facilities?
I need to know which one of these places are more likely to hire a certified nursing assistant with no experience?

Best answer:

Answer by Brittany
Nursing homes hire without experience all the time. I think ALFs do too but I don’t know if your chances are necessarily better there or not. I’m pretty sure you need experience for hospice.

Q&A: When grandparents are ready to enter in an assisted living place..Who is responsible for the payment, if they ?

Question by Interesting: When grandparents are ready to enter in an assisted living place..Who is responsible for the payment, if they ?
do not have any extra money? I feel the immediate family is, NOT THE GRANDCHILDREN…Just an honest answer. So and so is TRYING TO GET THE GRANDCHILDREN TO PAY..I feel that is wrong. Plus medi-care can help.

Best answer:

Answer by Susie D
Actually, no Medicare cannot help. Assisted living is NOT covered by Medicare. The only thing that covers Assisted living is long term care insurance.

So this is a moral and ethical decision, not a legal one. Me personally – if it came to keeping my grandmother safe and happy in her golden years I would contribute.

I have one Grandparent left and she is 93 – I would pay anything to keep her happy.
