Question by dottielasvegas: Seniors: What do you think of an Assisted Living Facility being built right across the street from your home?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
Lizzy-ti- This place is not for disabled people, & no mentally ill. It’s a for profit place. They are planning on spending 20-30 million to build. I can imagine the prices of the rooms.

I think its fine as long as you are in a neighborhood that allows comercial development. I have a friend who moved right down the street from an assisted living and skilled nursing home and she said that when she got really old all she would have to do is walk up the block and check in

What Are the Right Steps to be a C#/.NET Developer?

Question by Person: What Are the Right Steps to be a C#/.NET Developer?
I want to take a C#/.NET developer as a profession. I have a stable T-SQL skills and fairly ok foundation of Oracle PL/SQL. However, i can feel that i’m not much into having database development as a profession. I enjoy writing queries and practice on designing database in a scope that helps achieve my .NET application goal.

Here are the things that i find it crucial for me to have a good foundation in order to be a productive demanded developer on:

OOP Design Skills
C#
ASP.NET
PHP
XML

The followings i consider them as an assist:

Relational DB Design
SQL Queries in general
Unix Admin and shell scripting

The following fields are what i enjoy practicing in
my free time:

C++
Design Web Layouts

I’m still a student and what i posted above is what currently/mostly
i concentrate on for the time being.

I’m intending to be a .NET (Web and Desktop) Application
developer, doing it for living…

Questions:

1. Based on your experience. Am i on the right track? If no, can you please clarify…

2. Do companies let .NET web/desktop application developer
gets involved in Database administration such as Oracle and
SQL Server? I just wonder, i’m sure not but you never know.
Currently, i’m taking some Database Administration courses
for personal use. However, i feel this might not help me that much
i rather spend the effort i put on learning db admin in .NET development.
Any advices?

Just take the classes and get the degree. Employers will care more about your experience, but you will do best if you can do the same work right the first time by knowing the material. The App Dev and Reports people that I work with all hate nothing more than a poorly written query or program.

Is assisted living for seniors the right option for my mother?

Question by Louisa Moretti: Is assisted living for seniors the right option for my mother?
My father died more than a year ago and my mother has become gloomy ever since. It seems that we can hardly relate to each other anymore. It is hard for her and for me as well since I am caring for her and working at the same time. Should I bring her to an assisted living facility?

If she wants to go there that would be fine and she can join all of the assistant living activities too and meet with others.:)

Assisted Living & Nursing Homes: is it the Right Career for You?

Assisted Living & Nursing Homes: is it the Right Career for You?

As we age there are many ways in which we need to be cared. From in home healthcare to assisted living facilities there is many career choices if you have the heart for this type of the healthcare industry. Some of the career choices may involve a background in medicine or it may be that you just want to find a rewarding way to help. There are many options available if you want to get involved in this industry.

In Home Healthcare

For many, their last months, days or hours want to be spent in the comfort of their own home. In home hospice or nursing care can be a tremendous help for the families. It is also a very sensitive time because you are going to someone’s home and caring for what may be his or her final needs. Often you may be surrounded by other family members and might want training or additional information on how to respect people’s wishes, space and how to best comfort them during difficult times. This time spend with a family can also be very fulfilling. It allows you to forge a very special and meaningful relationship with those whom are receiving care and for their families. Families are counting on you to help their loved ones during very difficult times.

Assisted Living Facilities

These types of facilities provide a living situation for people that need some help but who are capable of doing most of their daily activities without extra help or supervision. By working in this type of facility you can forge many great relationships and will learn a lot from those around you. There may be opportunities to help with providing activities, or doing routine checkups on patients or providing other care and support as needed.

Nursing Homes

In this type of atmosphere the daily needs of those being cared for need to be assisted with. Simple activities such as eating or bathing may have become a chore that requires assistance. Again, this would be a valuable place to forge meaningful relationships. It may be difficult at times to watch those you have come to know and love pass away. However, the potential rewards may outweigh the emotional strain. Nursing homes have regulated schedules, times for activities and perhaps even time alone to read to a patient or spend time in conversation.  As with assisted living facilities, there are many different areas in which you could become involved. It could be a great way to exercise your conversation skills and spend time with someone that needs a companion or it may be a job for which you would be perfect.

There are many potential benefits to working in nursing homes, assisted living facilities or as an in home health provider. The meaningful relationships and the reward of helping and caring for others make for a tremendously fulfilling career. If you have the emotional strength, the skills and the compassion, this might be the right industry for you. Even without medical training there are many other ways to help. Contact local facilities to find out if there is a place that is right for you.

In Home Companion Care Services – Finding the Right Caregiver

In Home Companion Care Services – Finding the Right Caregiver

To find the appropriate senior home care is quite a daunting task. It’s a decision where caregivers, who will become such an important part of your loved one’s life, are the best possible match.

The kind of services caregivers will provide determines the qualities to look for in caregivers. Some senior home care providers will drop by for a few minutes to provide medical services, while others may spend several hours a day with the senior in less formal circumstances. In the latter case, this professional relationship may turn into a personal relationship that may last for years.

In case of medical care, your senior member will likely need the help of a licensed professional nurse. Alternatively, they might work with an occupational or physical therapist. These type of caregivers usually visit for short duration -15 minutes to half an hour or for a limited time frame, such as a few months.

In evaluating the particular individual providing this type of skilled care, it is most important to ensure they are properly certified.  If the care provider is Medicare-certified, the home health aide will automatically need to meet professional licensure requirements.

If you avail the services of personal care workers, questions will arise about their professional qualifications, personal characteristics as they will be intimately working with your senior members of the family. In home companion care services bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and feeding are included. This care worker may also help with shopping and cleaning, and even general entertainment.

Because of this, it is always important to ensure that your caregiver is not just a professional expert but also gets along well with the character traits of the senior.

Families may also want to ask for information about the caregiver’s preceding employment history, and call those references. In addition, many states offer background checks on criminal history. Senior home care agencies typically perform these kinds of evaluations on their employees.

Is Live-in Home Care Right for Your Loved One in New Jersey?

Is Live-In Home Care Right for Your Loved One In New Jersey?

Live- in home care offers many advantages to other types of homecare. Most seniors, when asked, would prefer to remain in their own homes as long as possible. Live-in home health care offers an affordable alternative to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Many people believe that live-in care is too expensive. In fact, a live-in home care aide is often times the most cost effective option, usually comparable in price to paying hourly for 8 hours of care daily.

For many people, deciding on and finding appropriate care for a parent or elderly relative can be a daunting task. Your loved on may be in the middle of a health crisis or perhaps you are trying to anticipate future needs. But you may ask yourself, “What is the best option?” For many, live-in home health care is the answer.

For family members, knowing their loved one has an additional person in the house can be comforting and in many cases, vital to the seniors staying in their own homes.

Having one caregiver in the home around the rather than several caretakers hourly also offers the opportunity for continuity of care, allowing the home health aide to get to know your loved one and his or her personal preferences.

Knowing when it’s time for a live-in caregiver is difficult for many caregivers. Most people wait too long. Some indicators that it may “be time” for 24 hour care is when:

-your loved one needs 8 hours or more care daily

-living with family is not an option

-nursing home or assisted living is not desired

-your loved one needs help with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as:

*toileting

*bathing

*dressing

*moving around

*eating

*managing medications

Additionally, if you answer YES to any or all of the following questions, a live-in may be the right option for you loved one:

-Are you uncomfortable leaving your loved one alone for a period of time?

-Are you afraid of your loved one falling?

-Are you afraid of your loved one forgetting to take medications?

-Is your loved one forgetful to the point where you are concerned they might leave the stove on or leave doors unlocked?

-Does your own schedule prevent you from doing the things your loved ones needs?

-Do you feel having around the clock care would be helpful but more expensive than you can afford?

-Did your loved one’s doctor prescribe in-home care?

Well informed home care services along with professionals such as elder law attorneys and geriatric care managers and can often help answer questions not only about the live-in process but also about various ways to pay for it. Certain insurance policies such as long term care insurance and benefit plans such as VA pension plans often pay for this type of care. Contacting a reputable home care company in your area can answer any additional questions that you may have and alleviate your concerns, therefore, clearing the path keeping your loved one safe and happy.

Is Nursing Home Right For Your Senior?

Is Nursing Home Right For Your Senior?

Dallas home health is committed to providing a family environment whether you choose to put your senior in an assisted living facility or have a home healthcare professional come out to make a house call for them.

You should take into account a few things before making the decision on what type of care to have for your senior. And I mean you should both consider what their specific needs are which are customized to them. And you should also consider what type of living situation is going to be best whether it be a large group home, traditional nursing home, assisted living facility for seniors who can still get around and help themselves, or in-home care for the truly independent senior.

Only you know what type of special needs and custom things your senior needs to maintain their health and vitality.

This is where Dallas home health care workers and service providers can come into your seniors home to care for them on a live-in basis or on just a daily check-in basis as needed. You can schedule how often these are needed based on your personal situation.

Many older people don’t want to be put in a nursing home. Despite this reluctance if your senior likes to have contact with other people and is a very outgoing friendly person then this can be the best solution.

It could even happen that if you decide a nursing home or dallas assisted living facility is the best choice that it changes them in a good way because they could meet a life long friend.

A big thing to take into account is what type of person they are and how they will fit in each of the specific types of living arrangements. Obviously, if you or your family can’t get over to visit them at least 2-3 times per week then getting them in a social environment is probably the best choice.

The other big factor is the level and amount of prescription drugs they’re taking.

Due to the serious dangers involved with prescription drugs and how they act when combined together a valued and trusted dallas home health professional is warranted. Having a professional you can trust look over the medications and get the correct doses provides all the peace of mind you need

Q&A: Dose a personal guardian have the right to take away all their wards rights?

Question by elshalom930: Dose a personal guardian have the right to take away all their wards rights?
I work for a company who give direct support to person with mental and physical dissabilities. Some like the women house I assisted are capable of making choices and realize when their choices are not honored. They have guardians (1 has one that is very controling and equarlly demanding; the other is as dominating. They have taken all of their wards rights to enjoy their lives away. Staff cannot give them the care that we have been trained to do. Medicaid which paids the most part of their living arrangement has been practally dis-missed by their guardian. The company has allowed them to control theirs and staff every whime. We cannot make a move to do anything for the women unless the guardians say so, we cannot take them anywhere, buy them nothing (not even a gift) ect… without the guardians permission (most-time they will not give). They have made caring for the ladies a nightmare! for them as well as staff. What if anything can be done about how much power is allowed over them?

Best answer:

Answer by gurlieak
A guardian is a fiduciary and is held to a very high standard of care in exercising his powers. If the ward owns substantial property the guardian may be required to give a surety bond to protect the ward in the event that dishonesty or incompetence on his part causes financial loss to the ward.

Does an employer have the right to give out a personal number?

Question by It is only my opinion: Does an employer have the right to give out a personal number?
We work in assisted living. An employee wrote some thing incorrectly in the book. The state called her personal cell phone to ask about the procedures at work. Can the employer give out her personal cell number? Isn’t it the director’s responsibility to take care of the issue/or should the state come to the work place and talk to the employee instead of calling her personal cell? This seems unusual to me. Please provide sources if you can. We are in Kentucky.
