I wonder how many elderly people suffer from constipation in nursing homes and no one to help them,?

Question by livelife: I wonder how many elderly people suffer from constipation in nursing homes and no one to help them,?
……..some can’t even talk to say they haven’t had a bowel movement. Some homes chart it but some don’t, just do it the easy way. My question is do you think some of them die because of this and all the toxins they are building up?

Nursing Home practices vary from home to home. Chronic constipation can be quite painful, and can lead to impaction. Most nursing home residents I had contact with were given regular medication daily of stool softeners to avoid this issue. I honestly don’t know if anyone has ever died from constipation, but I would venture to guess it would make someone very ill.
Some nursing homes are staffed with caring, dedicated workers who go out of their way to properly care for their residents. And of course there the others who do not. You could do a search on the web on chronic constipation and see if you can find a more detailed answer.

I would check with some local hospitals for references and or perhaps a couple of doctors. This might not get you the answer but it might get you pointed in a direction that will get one for you.

Can I apply for home health and be my father’s provider or caregiver and get paid for it?

Question by delila_mcglothine: Can I apply for home health and be my father’s provider or caregiver and get paid for it?
I have been taking care of him for the past three years since he has his first stroke. He has been living with me for many of years. His memory is not the same. I got a letter from the doctor that his disablity is permanent and that I am his caregiver. I have been cooking, paying his bills, taking him to doctor’s appt., etc. I also have power of attorney as an alternative and my older brother is first. He wil start getting medicare on May 1, 2006. I tried to work but my hours got to long and I was not here to cook or make sure he took his medicine. So I left to be here for him to make sure that he had the right meals to eat. I am the one that is doing everything for him till now.

lke to see for myself. I am her daughter power of attorney for health care and advocate. How should I approach the nursing staff as I want to check it out. Any suggestions??? Is this a common thing. This is all so new to me. We have to be there for our parents

Best answer:

Answer by Babe
They are probably not turning her or giving her the clean up care that she needs this is very very common. You do not need to tip toe. You are paying for this and you need to demand it. Take no chit from them at all. Check on them often and report what you see.

Question about minimum amount of senior classes?

Question by Olivia: Question about minimum amount of senior classes?
I just graduated 7th grade. My brother said to take summer school 8th grade and 9th grade in order to have an easy senior year. He told me I could be able to have just 2 hours of school a day in senior year. Is this true could I have just ONE HOUR of school a day? I am going to take Social Studies classes in summer school because I hate those. Why learn about the past when your living in the future.

Best answer:

Answer by Marilyn M
Unless you really have difficulty in learning, I would think you’d prefer to have your summers free. If you have too little to do your senior year, you will be tempted to drop out and then you will miss all the fun senior activities.

As to your question about studying history. We need to study the past in order to avoid making the same mistake a second time. That probably makes no sense to an eighth grader, but time has proved it true.
