Question by ☪ Tia ღ: will i get financial assistant for college if i am living on my own?
I’m a senior in high school, and I currently live with my parents. However, due to many family issues, I plan to move out as soon as I graduate, or save up enough money. I’ve already applied for colleges, but I’ve given in my entire family’s financial information. Will I get help when I live on my own? Would i need to file more papers since I’m moving out after all my financial documents are sent?
Thanks for any help

They always look at your parents information unless you’re independent. And living on your own doesn’t make you independent. (Yeah..I know. Its stupid.) Things like having a kid, being married, being under 24 with both parents deceased, being a foster child, etc. make you independent.
What you get depends on their financial info. Sorry.

“Family issues” suggest you and you alone have a problem, but just moving out on your own will not solve your problems – and being as financial aid is only available to those still residing with their parents (until they’re 24) it sounds as if you’re killing your chances.
until you are 24 years old, married, have kids you support or a few more rare situations, you MUST report your parents information on your FAFSA. Where you live has no bearing on this. And to answer your question, YES you will get fin aid if you don’t live with them… lots of kids under 24 don’t live at home and get aid…
no, you don’t have to refile your fin aid information again, because it doesnt’ matter where you live.
